SEO really changes.
Search work is not a trick. It is making the site answer real questions in language real people use.
SEO gets treated like a magic trick right up until you actually watch someone search for a basic answer the site should have made obvious already. Hours. Service area. What the pricing roughly looks like. Application deadlines. Where to park. The real work starts with making those answers easy to find, not with a keyword spreadsheet.
Titles matter. Page structure matters. The technical foundation has to be clean, no argument there. But local search usually improves for a much less exciting reason: the site finally starts speaking in the same plain language a real person uses when they're standing in their kitchen trying to decide something.
For community organizations especially, search is usually discovery for people who already care. A donor, a vendor, a parent, a neighbor, somebody who already wants to find the right door. The site shouldn't make them knock on three of them before they reach the one that actually answers their question.
I don't treat SEO as a bag of tricks, because it mostly isn't one anymore. I treat it as structure, plain language, and maintenance somebody can actually keep up with. If a page is clear enough for a tired person scrolling on their phone, it's usually most of the way to being clear enough for search too.
